M18 Hellcat Tank destroyer

The American M18 Hellcat was a tank destroyer first designed in December 1941.The design was changed alot, from using a 37mm gun to a British 57mm,then to a 75 mm and finally to a long barreled 76 mm gun, production began in mid 1943.The Hellcat was a good tank destroyer,it was fast and the long barrelled 76mm gun allowed to penetrate the armour of most enemy tanks. The Hellcat was mostly used on the Western front but saw limited service in the Pacific.Production ended in late 1944 but a few Hellcats survived to fight in the Korean war.

M26 Pershing Medium/Heavy tank

The American M26 Pershing was originally designed during WW2 as the heavy tank America desperately needed to combat the Panther and Tiger. The first units arrived on the Western Front in time to see action in the Battle of the Bulge(see post). They were also deployed to the Pacific where they almost saw action on Okinawa before the fighting ended. They fought well but were considered to have been have much effect on the war.The Pershing also fought in Korean war where It was the only Tank that could safely destroy the usually formidable T34-85.After this it was giver to several other countries and slowly faded away from military service.

M4 Sherman tank

The American built M4 Sherman medium tank was one of the most famous tanks of WW2.The Sherman was designed early in the war when the German's had very few tank's that could challenge it.However,by the time it into combat in late 1942 the German's had new weapons, such as Tiger I heavy tank and an improved version of the Panzer mark IV.Despite this the Sherman became the most popular tank in the American army.

The Sherman was given to many other allied countries such as Great Britain and Russia and soon became popular with those countries as well.As the war went on the Sherman was modified more and more.Eventually the Sherman was fitted with a new more powerful gun which helped it fight the bigger German tanks. The Sherman saw service in every major combat theatre(front)of WW2 and served with many armies even after WW2.
