The battle of the North Cape

The battle of the North Cape was a battle between the German battlicruiser Scharnhorst and the escorts of the Russia-bound convoy JW 55B,which included a battleship. So here's how it goes:On December 25th(Christmas day)1943 Germany launched operation Ostfront with the objective of attacking and destroying the heavily escorted Russia bound convoy JW 55B.

Early in the morning of December 26th(Boxing day)1943 the Scharnhorst began it's attack. It was driven off and pursued for several hours by cruisers of the escort force before the before being joined the battleship Duke of York and the rest of the cruisers and destroyers. The Scharnhorst battled the Duke of York for one or two hours before it started to get away.

However,a shell from the Duke of York hit one of the boiler rooms on the Scharnhost, limiting it's speed and letting the destroyers catch up.They fired torpedeoes into the Scharnhorst, limiting it's speed even more. The British ships then proceded to wreck the Scharnhorst with shells. The Scharnhorst was then finished off by more torpedoes from the destroyers and sank, only 36 of her crew were saved.
