The Myoko class heavy cruisers was one of the many cruiser classes that were built between WWI and WWII.The Myokos were pretty much the same as the Mogami and Takao classes that came after them.
However, although they were almost exactly the same as the Takao class(which are in many cases regarded as the same class) they differed from the Mogamis in the fact that the Mogamis were originally light cruisers armed with 15 6.1inch guns and only after a couple years of service that the cruiser was noticed as being top heavy and the 6inch guns were replaced with 8inch weapons. They all saw service in WWII and fought in many actions during.Only one of the four Myokos survived the war and it was scrapped soon after.

Question: If the ships were top heavy with the 6 in. guns, were they replaced with fewer 8 in. guns?
ReplyDeleteYes the 15 6 inch guns were replaced with 10 8inch guns.
