T-34 medium tank

The Russian built T-34 is considered by many to be the best tank ever built.The T-34 began in 1937 as a new light tank to replace the old BT series which was the main element of Russia's tank force and was rapidly becoming obsolete.Production started in 1940 and the few T-34's that were in service when Germany invaded in the summer of 1941 were one of the only tanks that could stand up to the massed German tank forces.They soon became Russia's main battle tank(because the BT series was almost completely wiped out in the first few months of fierce combat and because mass production had started)and gained a fierce reputation as one of the best tanks in the world.After the war ended they remained in service with many of Russia's allies and are still in service with a few of them.
